1st Acomb Boys' Brigade was founded in April 1979 at The Church of the Holy Redeemer York to provide a balanced programme of activities for children and young people from 5 to 18 years old. Through our programme we provide opportunities for children and young people to meet together in their communities and engage in a range of fun and developmental activities. We aim to empower children and young people by involving them in decision making at all levels of the BB and give them responsibility appropriate to their age and aptitude. This enables children and young people to engage with the needs of others, (especially other young people) locally, nationally and globally and encourages them to participate in activities and projects in which they can make a difference.
We work in partnership with our church to encourage the development of a personal Christian faith. We seek partnerships within our community to meet the needs of our members. We provide support by being responsive to the needs and aspirations of all children and young people regardless of differing abilities, identities, backgrounds or culture. Our voluntary leaders are trained to provide appropriate support, advice and guidance to ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people through the implementation of robust procedures.
Our work is split into age groups as follows:
Anchor Boys - for Boys aged 5 to 8 years
Junior Section - for Boys aged 8 to 11 years
Company Section - for Boys aged 11 to 15 years
Senior Section - for young men aged 15 to 18 years.
